If peoples’ values are in conflict with their goals then this will inhibit them from achieving their goals. A coach may help them to resolve whether the values conflict is real or perceived. If it is only perceived and not real, then the conflict is resolved. If it is a real conflict, then the coach might facilitate the client in adjusting their goal until there is no conflict. A coach should never ask a client to do something in conflict with the clients values. Whilst there is an unresolved conflict the client is likely to self sabotage in trying to reach their goal.
